Fend For Yourself

Wild Turk

What do you use your Gerber blades for in the field?

I have used mine for everything under the sun. Cleaning small game is probably what I use my gerber for the most. I have cleaned ducks, geese, pheasants, chukkar, turkey and quail. A really sharp blade seems to be even more important for small game and I keep my blades razor sharp. I carry a gerber on my hip when turkey hunting to dispatch any gobbler that isnt quite a goner. Turkeys are tough to kill and I have had them get up and run before, so these days after the shot, if needed I dispatch them with a knife as soon as I get to them. Works fine so far....

My personal favorite is the Freeman Caper. I use mine not just for dressing, but for gutting fish, cleaning birds and more. It's now replace my folding pocket knife as the best tool when I'm out.
