Les Stroud would kick the guy from Man vs Wild's butt. He is awesome he has no camera crew no one following him around and is not a poser. I agree he is on the Ultimate Gerber guy list.

I second that !

Agreed! Les Stroud, Survivorman! Les goes out there on his own without falling back to a luxury suite at night and no crew members dressing in bear suits!

Les Stroud does hold up the torch when it comes to fending for him self. I do not know how he can stand being alone for such long stretches of time. But watching his program has made me think about the simple things needed for survival in the wilderness.

Go Les!

Les wins hands down. The M v. W guy is entertaining and I watch the show, but towing the camera crew around bugs me. Les goes at it alone and that is it. Maybe if Les can parachute in on the first day and then eat a bunch of horrific nasty crap he would be the best of both worlds.

I do have one bone to pick with Les though. I dont recall him ever mentioning that he brings a sat phone with him into the woods. He acts as if his life depends on his survival and he has no help at all for 7 days. I clearly saw one on the last episode I watched (he was in the canadian rockies I think). There was a time lapse shot of clouds at sundown and when slowed down he walks into the shot at sundown talking on a sat phone. No harm in bringing one, but I dont think he mentioned it as part of his kit. Anyway, he is the man regardless.

Bear Grylls. I think that since he has to find his way out of the place he is in. That is tougher than sitting put for 7 days. The camera crew is there to film, not help. Plus Les Stroud doesn't eat as much nasty crap as Bear Grylls does. Bear has climbed everest and is way tougher than Les Stroud. But that is only my opinon.

One other thing Bear doesn't have all the equipment that Les does. All he has is a knife and a flint rock and occasionly one other thing. Have you seen the episode where Les Stroud had all that scuba equipment? I mean seriously. PLus he had a gun once. Bear has to use rocks and makes his own sling.
