I've been playing around in the outdoors since I was 9 years old. One thing I've come to value is a great knife, and my first Gerber was an EZ Out. One of the things that has always impressed me was the steel in Gerber's blades, which--unlike other brands--easily takes an edge and holds it for serious cutting chores.
Our neighbor's horse had gotten out of his pasture and ended up in my dad's hayfield. The horse tried jumping the fence into a creek, but the rope on his hackamore hung in the barbed wire. The horse wasn't able to get back up the bank and the rope was holding him in place while he thrashed around fighting for traction. Afraid he was going to hurt himself, I took the EZ Out I'd been using all day cutting haystrings and effortlessly slashed the rope with the knife's serrated edge. We were able to get the horse back on his feet and return him home, little worse for wear. I'm glad I had that Gerber in my pocket that day, and I still have that knife.
I got my first Gerber Knife when I was 10. It was the paraframe. I noticed that it was really sharp and stayed sharp. I still have it and it is sharp still. Another thing is that it was really tough. One day my dad was doin somethin out in the shed and I was helping him. He was in a tight situation and was about to get his hand seriously cut. He couldn't reach his knife so i grabbed my gerber paraframe and stuck the blade in between the thing that was about to cut him. When i got the Gerber out it wasn't even bent. The thing that was about to cut him was really heavy but i can't quite remember what it was.
